New Year’s blog hop

Happy New Year!

I’m so pleased to be part of the House of Manlove, New Year’s hop. This is where we talk about our goals for the coming year.

So my writing goals (and it’s kind of scary writing them down in public as it means I’ve to at least attempt to do them lol) are as follows:

Firstly – finish Dylan’s story. Dylan was a secondary character in my first book Claimed by Love, and as soon as I wrote him I knew he had to have his own story. I’m almost there – it is written but I’m doing the hard slog of editing and re-editing right now.

Self-publish a short m/f PNR novella – probably under a different pen name.

I’ve been musing on the pen name situation. I could publish everything under Skye Jones – but as most of my work is to be m/m – I think it might be better to have two pen names. That way the odd bits of m/f stuff I do write can go under that name.

Rer-write Head On. This is the big project I want to finish this year and get out there. It’s the book I’m most excited about that I’ve written so far – it’s also been the hardest to write. Partly because it deals with gritty issues like PTSD, politics, and sexual identity – but also because one of the characters, Scott, can come across as a bit prickly to readers so far. I need to figure out whether to tone him down, or keep him as is.
It is a m/m romance about a recently retired marine, and the peacenik tutor he meets.

There’s also a secondary story in Head On, who is going to get his own book, and I want to start on that soon. This one features Badger – another retired (or is he?) military man.

I also aim to write a short novella set in Luke, Kayley, and Sean’s world. To show them together now, and also to re-introduce Taylor – who is starting to demand a book of his own.

I don’t really know why I wrote the first book as a m/m/f when I think all the others in the series are going to be m/m? It is just the way it came to me. It does make it a bit hard to market the sequels, unless they really are easy to read as stand alones – because I don’t want readers who like their m/m without lady parts having to read the first book. So my first task this year is to get Dylan’s story out to some m/m beta readers, and see if it makes sense as a stand alone.

Last, but absolutely by no means least, I want to work on my craft. I’m a newly published writer, but I have been writing for the best part of a decade now. I still have so much to learn. I want to focus on plot development. I think I do ok with character development, but I want to work on adding tension to my work.

So, that’s it for me. Hopefully I will acheive most of these – if not all. Don’t forget to check out all the other great blogs in the hop here:
